Several accusers were present in federal court in Manhattan on Monday.

Kaine said on Monday that Acosta "must go" as a result of the "sweetheart deal" he signed off on for Epstein. He faces up to 45 years in prison if convicted of both counts.

"You know, if you go back and look at everybody else's decisions, whether it's a US attorney, or an assistant USA attorney or a judge, if you go back 12 or 15 years ago or 20 years ago and look at their past decisions, I would think you would probably find that they would wish they'd maybe did it a different way", said Trump.

"I feel very badly, actually, for Secretary Acosta because I've known him as being somebody that works so hard and has done such a good job", Trump said. But it was never filed, leading to Epstein's guilty plea to two state prostitution-related charges. But the president also said repeatedly that the White House would be looking deeper into the issue.

Acosta said in a series of tweets Tuesday that the passage of time in this case may be an advantage because more evidence is known and more victims are willing to come forward.

On Capitol Hill, a slew of Democrats called for Mr Acosta's resignation, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who accused him on Twitter of having "engaged in an unconscionable agreement w/ Jeffrey Epstein kept secret from courageous, young victims preventing them from seeking justice".

Houraney was also one of many to accuse Trump of sexual harassment, this time toward his former girlfriend and business partner, Jill Harth, who described an incident in 1997 as an attempted rape by Trump.

"Look, Donald, I do know Jeff very well, I cannot have him going after younger girls", Houraney recalled of his dialog to The Occasions. "It just goes to show".

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Trump must explain why he made glowing comments about the financier in 2002 to New York Magazine.

Schumer's question about Trump's relationship with Acosta referred to a 2002 NY magazine article in which Trump was quoted as saying that Epstein "was a "terrific guy" who enjoyed women 'on the younger side'". "I was not a fan of his, that I can tell you". "He's alot of fun to be with", Trump was quoted as saying.

The two were clearly friends, and have been seen together in their shared Palm Beach neighborhood and frequent tabloid appearances in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Acosta's role in the Florida deal for Epstein was raised by Democrat Tim Kaine at his confirmation hearing in the Republican-led Senate. "We strongly believe that Secretary Acosta was negligent in his duty to represent the best interests of the victims and the USA government".

Epstein's personal address book, copies of which have been included in legal filings, lists multiple private numbers for contacting Trump, his wife Melania and daughter Ivanka, as well as Trump's butler, executive assistant and security staff.

At the same time, as a criminal lawyer, "being shocked by an allegation doesn't mean I won't defend somebody", Dershowitz said of Epstein, who was indicted this week on sex trafficking charges. "But you're talking about a long time ago".

"The first moment of finding out that Jeffrey Epstein was put in jail was so relieving to me I felt safer", she said on ABC's "Good Morning America".

"He said: 'Look I'm putting my name on this".

The South Florida case against Epstein involved at least 40 teenage girls.

The Herald said Acosta gave Epstein the "deal of a lifetime" despite a federal investigation identifying 36 underage victims.
