"Gears 5 does not include a battle royale mode", said the game's multiplayer design director Ryan Cleven.

"Cross-platform play also extends across the other Gears 5 modes to provide a great over-the-top three-player experience in Escape, an epic five-player Horde session, or three-player Campaign co-op", Clevens said in an interview with Gamespot.

Gears 5 will support PC and Xbox One crossplay for several modes when it launches later this year.

If you're interested in seeing more of Gears 5, we got plenty of reveals at Microsoft's E3 press briefing including a cinematic trailer, the introduction of the Escape mode, and the reveal of the Terminator Dark Fate pack. It's a totally understandable question, as keyboard-and-mouse play often gives more skilled players a leg up on those using a gamepad.

The Gears 5 Tech Test includes three modes (Arcade, Escalation, and King of the Hill), along with two multiplayer maps-District and Training Grounds. The Coalition plans on allowing players to choose how they want to play with the support of key rebinding and the use of the Xbox adaptive controller. You must either pre-order the game or subscribe to Xbox Game Pass (standard or Ultimate) to try out the game. The test can be run on Xbox One or Windows 10 and will be accessible to anybody who preorders the game or purchases the relevant subscriptions any time before the end of the test.
