Both teams allowed their intensity to drop off for much of the final half-hour, but Bohemians took encouragement from some unconvincing Chelsea defending to push for an equaliser in the last 10 minutes.

Speaking about the match, Chelsea's Michy Batshuayi scored in the 8th minute to help the Blues to an early lead in the first half. "We haven't been back for long and this was our first game after just a few days so there was a bit of pressure on the lads to work today", he told Chelsea TV. Chelsea, you've got to think they're not going to be as good because they've not got Hazard anymore.

Frank Lampard and his Chelsea players are in Dublin as they prepare for the new season.

"You've lost your best player that half of everything was built around last season in Hazard, you can't actually buy anybody else at the moment and that [the Federation Internationale de Football Association ban] looks like it might stick".

"It was great to win a trophy to finish with and now we are all ready and raring to get back at it".

Lampard, who won three Premier League titles and the Champions League as a Chelsea player, said he was happy with the team's performance despite failing to get the victory.

"It is about individuals getting fit and pushing themselves to the limit and I thought some of the performances - particularly from the younger lads - was really good". We have high standards and we have brought that in.

One man who did not see action in the Irish capital was Christian Pulisic, away following his participation with the United States in the Gold Cup, which ended on Sunday with final defeat to Mexico.

"Fitness was our issue, we've been working hard on it, even this morning", he added.

Pre-season preparations will continue in Ireland on Saturday when they take on St Patrick's Athletic.
