France Football have also confirmed the deal is complete with De Ligt expected to earn €12m a season, signing a five year contract with Juventus.

Juventus are reportedly ready to pay $84 million for De Ligt's services, making him the second-most expensive defender in the history of transfers, behind only Liverpool's Virgil Van Dijk.

Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt has returned to pre-season training with his team-mates - despite having agreed personal terms with Juventus, according to Tuttosport.

While de Ligt has chosen Juventus - turning down interest from Barcelona, Manchester United and others - his current and prospective clubs are still to reach an agreement.

Ajax released a short statement to confirm that "awaiting a possible transfer, Matthijs de Ligt does not travel with the group".

The 19-year-old defender further gained the attention of Juventus, after his goal through header and disciplined defending impressed the officials at the Italian club.

Sarri's side have already made six summer signings with Adrien Rabiot, Aaron Ramsey, Gianluigi Buffon, Luca Pellegrini and Merih Demiral all arriving, while Cristian Romero was purchased from Genoa before being loaned back.

Last week, Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu said he knows where De Ligt would be playing next season, but would not elaborate on the point.
