But now the saga is finally over, with Griezmann being announced as Barcelona's third arrival of the summer.

Barcelona have yet to respond to Atletico's statement, but this disagreement was mentioned several weeks ago, as Griezmann confirmed he wanted to leave the Madrid club and move to the Nou Camp. Atletico Madrid have released an official statement iterating that Barcelona have paid less than what they are supposed to pay.

Atleti demand that they are owed an extra $90 million from the original release clause, claiming that Griezmann and Barcelona had a deal before the amount of the clause decreased on July 1st.

Barcelona's acquisition of Griezmann made him the sixth most expensive signing in history behind Ousmane Dembele, Joao Felix, Philippe Coutinho, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

Though, it was only announced on Friday with Barcelona paying Griezmann's €120million release clause.

The France World Cup victor has signed a five-year deal with the Catalan club, with a buyout clause of €800m, which will see him remain at the Nou Camp until 2024. Barca were reluctant to move for him initially due to the way he turned them down via a documentary called "The Decision" last summer.

During five years with Atletico, Griezmann, a World Cup victor with France last summer, scored 133 goals in 257 appearances.

The French soccer star began his senior career in 2009 with Real Sociedad, before joining Atletico in 2014.

The announcement was the latest episode in a spat between the two clubs and Griezmann after the 28-year-old failed to show up for Atletico's pre-season gathering on Sunday following his announcement in May he would be leaving for an unnamed destination - long-suspected to be Barcelona. He also won the Europa League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Spanish Super Cup in that time.
