Argentina's Lionel Messi celebrates after scoring the first goal against Nicaragua June 7, 2019.

Lionel Messi only needed 45 minutes to see off Nicaragua as Argentina warmed up for the Copa America with a 5-1 win on Friday.

The Central Americans, who are ranked 129th in the world, will participate in this month's Gold Cup tournament while Argentina will battle it out in Brazil.

Messi has already lost three World Cup finals before this and the last time Argentina won this competition, Messi was just six years old.

Luis Suarez struck on his return from injury to help Uruguay to a 3-0 win against Panama as they prepared for their Copa America opener against Ecuador...

Aguero, earning his 90th cap, nearly slid in to break the deadlock before Messi wasted a golden chance in the 12th minute after receiving a lofted ball from Giovani Lo Celso, only to fail to make proper contact from close range.

Messi, however, is a danger for any team and his brilliant run and finish saw the Barcelona star beat three defenders before clinically finishing past Lorente. Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan scored a brace as well while Watford's Roberto Pereyra scored the fifth goal and Juan Barrera of Nicaragua got one back from the spot in the dying moments of the match. He grabbed his second soon after when Aguero's shot was parried.

Argentina take on Colombia in their opening Copa America match in Salvador and also face Paraguay and Qatar in Group B.
