EA Play 2019 didn't prove to be a vintage curtain raiser for E3 2019, but we were treated to some new Madden NFL 20 gameplay details. New additions to playbooks, such as RPO's (run-pass-option) were also touched on, with the already-announced Philly Special being shown off in-game. X-factor abilities allow certain players to perform better under certain circumstances, and these abilities are split into two categories: zone abilities and superstar abilities.

An elite group of players also get a new category to reflect their phenomenal real-life abilities. Giving star running backs extra routes out of the backfield and will give them a raised percentage for gaining a few extra yards or catching the ball in heavy coverage.

Patrick Mahomes, the cover star and QB for the Kansas City Chiefs, has the Bazooka ability which will increase his maximum throwing distance by 15+ yards after completing four passes of 30-yards or more.

To personalise the release further, starting QBs like Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers will now sport custom animations, with more set to be added as the season goes on. Not only that, but a number of small gameplay tweaks have been made to make the experience more fluid and responsive, and a handful of new features like RPOs will make their debut in Madden NFL 20.

Madden NFL 20 was only one of the games featured at EA PLAY 2019.

Just a heads up for all the football fans out there: EA Play attendees can get access if they stop by the Madden booth, but everyone else will have to find codes as they're sent out on EA and Madden social media accounts from June 10 to June 14, according to EA's blog post.
