Square Enix's E3 press conference doesn't happen until much later today, but the publisher has announced the release date for the Final Fantasy VII remake. It's now scheduled to arrive this winter.

Square Enix also revealed a second special edition of the game called the 1st Class Edition for Final Fantasy VII Remake, which includes all of the content of the Deluxe Edition alongside a Play Arts Kai-made Cloud Strife statue alongside his bike and Buster Sword.

They also announced that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is also going to be on iOS and Android, in addition to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. See for yourself in the video below. Even though the popularity of Final Fantasy VIII pales in comparison to its predecessor, the sheer absence of the RPG in Square Enix's catalog of remasters meant the demand grew over time. Tell us down in the comments. As the game is set to be episodic we hope that future instalments will open the game up and allow you to explore the massive open world, but it isn't confirmed yet. It's best to save limit breaks for when bosses or enemies are staggered for insane damage modifiers.

The Final Fantasy series is full of fantastic games, but perhaps none are quite as divisive as Final Fantasy 8. That's a really neat tactical trick that helps emphasize that Final Fantasy 7's combat is still about a thoughtful approach, rather than lightning-quick Devil May Cry combos.

Q: Are all of the characters from the original game in Final Fantasy 7 Remake?

We then got a combat explainer from Neal Pabon, senior manager of product marketing. Whether Square Enix was waiting for the right time to make the announcement, or if there were some underlying technical issues is hard to say. Naoki Yoshida, producer of Final Fantasy XIV online, came out to talk about Shadowbringers, the third expansion pack, which will release on July 2. Square Enix could very easily have released the same game with modern graphics and music, and the fans would be satisfied.
