Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly tried to convince de Ligt to join him at Juventus following Portugal's 1-0 win over the Netherlands in the Nations League final last weekend, but a move to Italy remains a big outsider.

Van de Beek is hot property having enjoyed a superb season with the Amsterdam giants that saw them reach the Champions League semi-final stage.

On De Ligt, who was nutmegged by Goncalo Guedes before the Portugal winger exchanged passes with Bernardo Silva and fired in a 60th-minute victor, Van de Beek added: "A lot of clubs want to buy him, I think, because he is a good player and now he has to choose for himself".

Asked what colour shirt he would be wearing next season, he said: "I don't know. That's why I laughed but I didn't say anything".

The Dutchman was part of a rearguard tasked with stopping the ever-dangerous Portuguese star in Monday UEFA Nations League final in Porto.

Moreover, if Matthijs De Ligt chose to join Manchester United, then the Red Devils would be delighted to have the most brightest talents of Europe presently. Until now, they have been reluctant to pay De Ligt more than his Ajax teammate Frenkie de Jong, who joins next month. "Of course I would like him to come to Barcelona but we will see what happens".

Van De Beek was more forthcoming on the situation regarding team-mate Matthijs de Ligt, with it appearing a matter of when rather than if the defender leaves.

Barcelona were favourites for his signature, while Manchester United and Liverpool were also believed to have a chance of signing the youngster.

"He is a really good guy, a really good player he is a good professional who always trains extra and he is a really good guy".

Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan says that Ajax star Donny van de Beek is seeking a move to either Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspurs.

"For a young player like me, it's important to go to a club where I can play consistently".

Additionally, the player is also fit enough considering his age, to develop the long-term project at the Old Trafford proposed by Ole Solskjaer this summer.

"You see that a lot", he said.
