Woods had fallen to 1,199th in the world rankings in December 2017 after spinal fusion surgery as a last-ditch move to ease nagging back pain that made simple movements hard.

Woods is a month removed from The Masters.

"I get Tiger was back, so it's a little bit different, " Koepka said of where the focus went at the Masters - and always will go with Woods around.

"I wanted to play at Quail Hollow (the Wells Fargo Championship), but to be honest with you, I wasn't ready yet to start the grind of practising and preparing and logging all those hours again", he said. I don't think he's doing this to gain an advantage.

Woods, who has not been world number one since March 2013, has spent a record 683 weeks atop the rankings. "Nobody has an excuse not to turn up at the BMW Championship in the UK".

To Harrington, nothing compares with representing the continent in what has become the most intense event in golf.

"That's how he wins at Firestone six times, he wins Bay Hill six times". Getting there and making the team would be the tough part. "It is a huge deal to play in the Ryder Cup team in terms of people's careers. Like it really did make him as a golfer".

John Daly has hit back at the criticism of his plans to use a golf buggy at this week's US PGA Championship.

Tiger Woods was asked about the PGA's decision during his press conference this morning.

"As far as J.D. taking a cart, well, I walked with a broken leg, so".

Woods famously won the 2008 US Open with a stress fracture in his left tibia and a partially torn ACL in his left knee, but Daly wishes he had "all the facts". He played 91 holes, winning in a playoff.

Many golfers oppose the use of carts, believing that not having to walk the course will put the rest of the field at a competitive disadvantage. "And then I can't go anymore". Who's going to play good and who can win? "We try and use common sense, what's reasonable, what's fair for the protection both of the player and those issues as well as the playing of a major championship".

Martin sided with Daly, saying, "It seems like the PGA of America handled this correctly", Martin, now the golf coach at the University of OR, said.

Woods, 43, last skipped tournaments between major championships in 2013, when he had an elbow injury following the U.S. Open, then tied for sixth at The Open.

Singh, 56, is the second player to withdraw due to injury in two days after Justin Thomas withdrew Monday with a wrist injury.

"As a past champion this tournament is extra special to me", Thomas said in a statement.
