"United are not just a football club, they are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and you're hiring a manager who's been in Cardiff for a little while and in Norway, which is unlike any other big club in the world".

"Kieran, with his 32 years of age, you'd think he's had 32 years in coaching".

But Solskjaer feels United are still capable of signing Europe's best players, saying: "In the long-term planning we have to think about being in the Champions League next year".

"He's a Manchester United lad through and through, he came through with Norman Whiteside and Mark Hughes in that youth team".

Jose Mourinho had fallen out with so many players by the end that his sacking in December was inevitable and, despite a short-term bounce under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, performances nosedived again once the Norwegian - the club's fourth manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired - was appointed permanently on March 28.

"Every player in the dressing room has a responsibility for what has happened this season".

"I really believe in Ole".

Speaking to Manchester United's media channel MUTV (quotes via Birmingham Live), Solskjaer has said that he is looking forward to seeing the 21-year-old in action during pre-season.

"I've learned that I don't like losing", the former United striker said.

"We started off fantastically".

Solskjaer is coming under pressure after a disappointing end to the season which saw United win just two of their final 12 games. "We've got loads of good examples of players being out for a year on loan and coming back as men so let's see what we decide on these boys but I can see majority staying here and getting chances". The whole group gelled together and I enjoyed winning but I know that football is hard. We are in a league with loads of very good teams and, to be at our top [level], we need to be 100 per cent focused.

"We came into some games really, really focused with the full team and I thought that was fantastic".

"Then you learn a lot when you go through tough times and think about who can be build this team around, and who we think is going to take the next step because we need to go to the next level".
