News out of NY is the Jets have fired their general manager, Mike Maccagnan and VP of Player Personnel Brian Heimerdinger.

Head coach Adam Gase appears to be the beneficiary for now as he has been given the interim GM title, while the Jets look for a full-time replacement.

ESPN reported that Brian Heimerdinger, the Jets' vice president of player personnel, also was sacked as part of the team's front office shake-up.

"Mike helped to execute the strategic vision of the organization during the last four seasons and especially the past few months", Johnson said. Johnson says he made the move after assessing what would be in the Jets' best interests.

Douglas is close to Gase and has been discussed in NFL circles as a candidate for jobs around the league.

Now, stunningly, he's out as the team's general manager. Oakland did something similar when it hired draft expert Mike Mayock away from NFL Media to be the team's general manager.

Gase was irritated by the suggestion there were problems between he and Maccagnan when asked about the reports, saying last Friday: "I don't know who decides to put that stuff out there. We have discussions on everything".

Gase, the former Bears offensive coordinator, was sacked as head coach of the Dolphins on December 31 after two seasons in Miami.

Maccagnan and Bowles started together with the Jets before the 2015 season.

The Jets might turn their attention to Eagles executive Joe Douglas, who worked with Gase in Chicago, in their search for a new general manager.

"The jets aren't particularly pleased with their new running back's decision to stay away from the team given their significant investment and desire to make him an integral part of Adam Gase's offense".

Gase was hired this off-season following the dismissal of Todd Bowles as head coach.
