Hot, sunny Memorial Day weekend ahead for New Orleans

With a three-day weekend ahead, I'm looking at what could possibly go wrong with the forecast. Strong to severe thunderstorms are likely, with the primary threat being large hail and damaging winds, although an isolated tornado can not be ruled out.

Memorial Day in New Orleans will bring an early burst of summer heat, with highs in the 90s throughout the holiday weekend. Some sunshine breaking through the clouds helps warm us fast through the morning and into the early afternoon.

Highs Saturday will reach at least the upper 60s with some lower 70s likely.

AccuWeather anticipates a sweep of dry air may hinder the stormy activity on Memorial day.

Don't be surprised if you hear a few rumbles of thunder late Thursday night as the broken line of showers move out.

Campsites at Tonto and Coconino national forests typically fill up by Friday on Memorial Day weekend. Sunday will also be very warm.

Monday, May 27: Memorial Day will be picture flawless and not as warm with mostly sunny skies and a high in the mid 70s.

There's a slight threat of rain Sunday, but it will mainly be sunny and hot with the mercury flirting with 90 in parts of South Jersey.

SUNDAY-Scattered rain showers with isolated storms.

In Flagstaff, highs are forecast in the low 60s until Monday, when it will drop to around 52.

And while the roads have cleared up, the Arizona Department of Transportation said drivers still need to buckle up and be mindful of their speed, as there were seven fatal crashes on Arizona roadways last Memorial Day weekend. Readings getting into the 70s and lower 80s is far above average.

Thursday and Friday will feature partly cloudy skies and breezy conditions.
