A Texas police officer fatally shot an unarmed woman moments after she is heard saying "I'm pregnant" in an altercation captured on video.

The officer was patrolling an apartment complex in the Houston suburb of Baytown late Monday night when he saw a woman he knew from previous encounters, Baytown police said.

"During the course of the attempted arrest, the female began struggling with the officer, which forced the officer to deploy his Taser", Baytown Police Lt. Steve Dorris said.

"You're actually harassing me", she was heard yelling at the unidentified officer, telling him angrily, "I'm actually walking to my house". "That deployment was not effective, and the female was able to get the officer's Taser away from him". That's when he shot multiple times.

She said her sister - who has two children in their 20s as well as three grandkids - was on medication for schizophrenia and previously complained that the officer, a neighbor, had harassed her.

The video, which was shared on Facebook and Snapchat messenger, shows the woman fighting with the Baytown police officer, according to KHOU. A family member identified the woman as Pamela Shantay Turner.

As the officer keeps trying to arrest the woman, she flails her arms and yells, "I'm pregnant!"

"It's a tragic event for everyone involved". According to The Associated Press, police said that they will determine whether she was pregnant during the autopsy.

The officer, an 11-year veteran, was treated for minor injuries, police said.

Dorris said police were aware of the video circulating on social media and that investigators want to talk to the person who took the video, because he or she was a witness to the shooting. "It's extremely disrespectful for everybody involved, but that's the day and age we live in with social media".

At this time, the officer who shot Turner has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting.
