Inspection issues send 8 to the rear at Richmond

Truex regained the lead for the last time after green-flag pit stops that started with just more than 80 laps to go.

"This sport brings me together with my children", he said. Three weeks in a row I felt like we had a vehicle that could win the race and we haven't won.

Truex gave Joe Gibbs Racing its sixth victory in nine races this season and won on a track shorter than a mile for the first time in his career.

Truex led a race-high 186 laps (of 400) on the way to his 20th career-series win and 18th victory in a Toyota Camry.

Busch has been among the top ten in this season races.

In a race to see who could preserve their auto best, Truex outlasted Bowyer and then held off a four-lap charge by Joey Logano to win the NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway on Saturday night.

Kyle Busch has grabbed the lead from Kevin Harvick during the the NASCAR Cup race at Richmond. I was just real, real tight that last run. You have to have good brakes, as well, and be able to turn the center.

Per Neudorff, there is a 90 percent chance the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway will be completed Saturday night in its entirety.

Jones' failed inspection moves Kurt Busch up to the front row to start alongside Harvick in the second position.

"I was watching them race and thought that if I was just patient and saved my tires, I could get them", he added.

Busch, who had led 103 laps, worked his way back up to 15th place by the end of second stage.

NASCAR says eight cars failed prerace inspection, including three that failed twice. Martin Truex Jr., Chase Elliott, Austin Dillon, Daniel Suarez and Jimmie Johnson earned positions six through 10 on the grid, respectively.

As a result, NASCAR disqualified their qualifying speeds, sending them to the rear of the field, disallowed their pit stall selection and ejected one engineer from each team for the race.

No racing next week for the Easter break. "Everyone at JGR is doing a great job...we've been chipping away at it, so hopefully we can get better from here on out". We had a decent green-flag cycle that got us up again ... and then we reeled in the 19 (Truex) and the 14 (Bowyer) from pretty far back.

At Richmond, Busch has one finish outside the top 10 in his last seven starts.

However, he'll likely wonder what might have been, after coming up a few feet and a lap or two short of another Cup Series victory on Saturday under the Richmond floodlights.
