Epic Games Hires Infinity Ward and Respawn Co-Founder

The news was shared by games industry veteran Geoff Keighley on Twitter, who claims Epic hired West quietly to aid their game development efforts.

According to a tweet from Geoff Keighley, West has apparently been at Epic Games for around a month already, which could mean the ex-Infinity Ward and Respawn Entertainment co-founder may already be working on something new.

Epic Games has been flexing its financial muscle fueled by the wildly successful Fortnite battle royale game. West previously served as CTO of Infinity Ward before later founding Respawn with Vince Zampella after Activision fired the two. It also created the popular Gears of War franchise and the Unreal Tournament series. West left Zampella in charge of Respawn in 2013, and it was not made clear where his next work would be. Epic has put out titles in various degrees of early access for much of the past few years, but nothing's caught on the way Fortnite has.

This will be the first gaming project that Jason West will be a part of since his departure from Respawn Entertainment. However, there has been no confirmation from Epic Games regarding what kind of work West has been, and will be, doing for them.

Making another game that successful could be hard, not least because Fortnite followed and capitalized a trend set by another game.
