The tragic incident occurred on the final day of the Sao Paulo Fashion Week (SPFW), organisers said.

A Brazilian male model has died after collapsing on the catwalk during Sao Paulo Fashion Week.

Soares' cause of death will not be known until an autopsy has been completed.

Tales Soares was taking part in a show for the brand Ocksa when he fell.

"We offer our honest condolences to Tales' family", it said, while label Ocksa said on Instagram its entire team was "shocked" by the death of Soares.

The show went on despite Mr Soares' death, with models brandishing hand-written placards on the catwalk with messages of tribute to the popular model, such as "Luto" (mourning) and "Amor" (love).

He was rushed to the nearest hospital but sadly couldn't be saved and was later pronounced dead.

Twenty-six-year-old Tales Soares reportedly stumbled as he was turning at the end of the stage, during the event at Sao Paulo Fashion Week.

Brazilian daily newspaper Folha reported that the model was walking when he appeared to trip on his shoelace and fall, with onlookers initially thinking it was part of the show.

A spokesman said: "We emphasize that the model always had exemplary behavior".

"Tales never presented or complained about health problems".

A statement on the fashion week's Instagram account read: "May God welcome you with open arms!"
