"It's interesting to note how Indian artists have consistently claimed top spots over the last few months in the Global YouTube Top Artists chart". Besides, there is the advertisement-led free version.

Google on Tuesday launched its YouTube Music platform in India.

Also, in the US, Spotify Premium has recently included Hulu (allows instant streaming of television series) at no extra cost. You also get the option to download songs to listen to in offline mode and a family pack of Rs. 149 per month, which you can share with 5 members. Your purchased music, uploads and playlists will remain accessible in Google Play Music as usual.

YouTube Music also offers content in select Indian languages including Bhojpuri and Marathi.

Google has launched YouTube Music and YouTube Premium in South Africa, offering ad-free access to streaming music and all YouTube videos.

The free version of YouTube Music offers ad-supported music streaming on desktop and mobile via an app. Think of it as a YouTube app, but with a focus only on music and music videos.

YouTube had the scope to leverage its advantage of being present in the country for more than a decade while others started operations later. Music from India has always been so much more than just the audio. YouTube is also following the same path and is expected to add more Indian songs.

The app is highly personalized, and a solid algo works behind the scene to make it seamless.

What changed their mind now? Some users, including myself, have also reported having to go through more than one ad roll before we can get to the video.

Unlike Google apps like YouTube, Maps, and Gmail, it is not inbuilt in your smartphone. The main method through which YouTube earns money is through advertisements.

India is one of the leading markets for YouTube in terms of consumption.

This new music streaming service will compete against the already available Amazon Music, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Gaana, and Spotify.

YouTube Music, thanks to the organized Hotlist screen, will enable the user to keep updated on the hottest videos in the world right then, right there. India's current streaming revolution - the result of low-priced smartphones combined with falling data rates - means there are millions of new internet users eager to stream music, and companies equally eager to expand into India to grab a piece of the market. "The same way you can have a profile on iTunes or Spotify, this service is going to give us [local artists] the same kind of advantage and interaction with our fans", she said.
