Strzok was removed from special counsel Robert Mueller's investigative team in August 2017 following the discovery of the texts and was later fired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Page and Strzok exchanged text messages in 2016 in which he said they would stop Donald Trump from being elected president, according to a Department of Justice inspector general report that was released last June.

"She was not considered a target by the Justice Department", Mr. Strzok told the House Judiciary Committee, saying that while investigators saw her as a "critical player", she was "not by any means the only person that we had an investigative interest in".

"If there's an allegation, he, of all people, but everybody would want to know: if this is going on in my campaign I want you to tell me about it", Strzok said.

Facts first: Trump's claims about the Justice Department and Clinton email investigation are not supported by Page's recent testimony or the conclusions reached by independent investigators.

During the early days of the Russian Federation investigation, FBI officials debated whether Donald Trump's chance of winning should factor into how aggressively they investigated potential coordination between his campaign and the Kremlin, two FBI officials told Congress a year ago, according to newly released transcripts of their interviews.

"Just to clarify, we were asked to provide any work-related communications on Special Agent Strzok's personal devices".

Trump's tweet comes after Congressman Doug Collins released 370 pages of Page's transcript testimony on his own volition, and promised that he would release even more in the future.

But if the President is referring to Comey's ultimate decision not to recommend charges, Page's testimony does not show that former FBI Director James Comey "lied".

The Strzok transcript is the third set Mr. Collins has released, following ones from Justice Department official Bruce Ohr and Ms. Page herself.

The Strzok-Page texts were discovered during an investigation of the FBI's handling of the Clinton email investigation.

Strzok also said Comey initially concluded Clinton had shown "gross negligence" in how she handled classified information - a finding that could lead to charges - but dialed that back to "extreme carelessness" by the time he finished his memo.

He said he didn't recall specifically writing it, but says he now thinks the "we" he was talking about was the country at large.
