Hunt led the National Football League in rushing in 2017, and had 824 yards in 11 games in 2018 before being released.

Do you agree with Hunt's eight-game suspension?

Hunt, a former National Football League rushing champion, was released by the Kansas City Chiefs last season after video became public that showed him shoving and kicking a woman during an incident in a Cleveland hotel last February.

Kareem Hunt, #27 of the Kansas City Chiefs, in a game against the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 28, 2018.

The Browns' signing of Hunt was seen as controversial by many following a video released by TMZ previous year that showed him shoving, pushing and kicking a woman at The Metropolitan at the 9 Hotel in Cleveland in February 2018. He was placed on the league's Commissioner's Exempt List and released by the Chiefs in December after the video was published by TMZ and the Chiefs found he had not been truthful in telling them about the event. He released a statement which included another apology.

"First off, I would like to once again apologize for my actions past year".

"I respect the league's decision on discipline, and I appreciate the time I spent with Commissioner (Roger) Goodell last week".

When John Dorsey signed the OH native earlier this off-season, it was known that Kareem Hunt likely faced a lengthy suspension. I also appreciate all of the support I received from my union through this process.

The league said Hunt has told them he's committed to "available resources" and he has pledged to live up his obligations. Police investigated but the woman did not file charges against Hunt.

Browns general manager John Dorsey drafted Hunt for the Chiefs in 2017, when Dorsey was the team's GM.

Hunt's arrival has made Browns third-down running back Duke Johnson expendable and the team has considered trading him.

This means the Browns will be able to employ Hunt out of the backfield for the second half of the season.

In factoring the length of the suspension, the NFL took into account that Hunt missed the final five games of the season previous year after the video was released and he was placed on the NFL Commissioner's exempt list after being cut by the Chiefs.

Hunt's suspension caps a busy week for the Browns, who acquired superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on Tuesday in a trade with the New York Giants.
