For what it's worth, the actual statue unveiling went off without a hitch on March 3rd, featuring a much more legitimate statue of Beckham which now takes pride of place outside the LA Galaxy stadium.

After hearing that David Beckham hadn't seen the finalised version of a statue of himself that LA Galaxy are planning to unveil at an upcoming ceremony, the Late Late Show host chose to step in.

David Beckham reacts to a joke statue, created by friend and talk show host James Corden.

The reveal was orchestrated with a bunch of actors, one of which called him "Dave" Beckham repeatedly and reflected on his career at "Man City", which is some real subtle chef kiss gear.

Beckham is heard critiquing the statue to the fake artist: "It's slightly different to what is was when I saw it in Chicago". "I mean, look at my chin".

"I honestly look like Stretch Armstrong", he said, also reserving criticism for the pointy chin, dodgy eyes and not-very-bootylicious bum.

"It doesn't look anything like me, look at the eyes".

"I really don't see how this can go out. There's no way that can out in front of the stadium". The only thing that's good is that hair and that's about it.

"My parents are coming from London, my wife is coming over".

After a forklift driver "accidentally" destroyed the offending statue, Corden ran out from behind the scenes and surprised Beckham, who laughed and cursed at the late-night host.

"You've probably done me a favor there", Beckham quips as he somewhat relievedly stares at the splintered remains.

Corden then hugged Beckham, who continued to swear at the prank, before saying: "thank god for that".
