The Cloud Macchiato will come in caramel and cinnamon flavors and, for the temperature-sensitive, be served hot or cold. The Starbucks team created a special recipe for its Cloud powder, using egg whites as a key ingredient to create a layer of "fluffy Cloud foam", Starbucks said in a news release.

Excited about the release, Ariana Grande also tweeted about the new drink with a series of pictures of herself wearing the brand's barista apron and holding the new drink.

Lester Fabian Brathwaite is a Brooklyn-based writer, editor, bon vivant and all-around sassbag. On Monday, both Starbucks and Grade posted cryptic tweets with cloud emojis.

Creators of the Cloud Macchiato were reportedly inspired by leche merengada, or "meringue milk" - which is a summer drink enjoyed by people in Spain. Grande's love of clouds (and the cloud emoji) is well documented, with the singer launching a Cloud perfume in February.

"The original Spanish beverage combines cinnamon and lemon zest, with a frothy texture which inspired us to reinvent the beverage as a macchiato", said Erin Marinan, from Starbucks research and development team.

Ariana Grande has sold millions of albums and sold out arenas around the world.

The coffee company first teased the cloud macchiato during its investor day in December as an example of how the company is innovating its iced beverages.

Along with the new and returning beverages, Starbucks is also adding a cake pop to its food menu, which is coated in white chocolate and covered in a sweet-and-sour topping.
