Toro Rosso to benefit from "fewer variables" on 2019 auto

Toro Rosso has released the first images of its 2019 Formula One auto, the STR14, one week ahead of its testing debut in Barcelona next Monday.

Toro Rosso have released the first images of their 2019 vehicle to kick off Formula 1's eagerly-anticipated "launch week". However, if fans were hoping for a striking livery, they will be sorely disappointed.

"We just have a few less variables to play with". Hopefully, the auto will be quick and produce decent results for Daniil Kvyat and Alexander Albon.

"The chassis itself, as per regulations, is a complete Toro Rosso design and IP as is the front outboard suspension, along with all aspects of the cooling systems, power unit installation and steering column".

Kvyat enjoyed a rapid run up the motorsport ladder, reaching F1 with Toro Rosso in 2014 before he was promoted the following year to Red Bull Racing.

Team boss Franz Tost said he did not want to set any targets for Toro Rosso but Honda's F1 technical director Toyoharu Tanabe said Red Bull's engine partner was aiming to "achieve better results than in 2018 for both teams".

It might be argued that the Haas-Sauber-Toro Rosso model is now the only way for smaller teams to competitively exist. Me and my engineering crew will do everything we can to squeeze the maximum out of the package we're given by the team. Daniil Kvyat first drove for the team five years ago and is making his return after spending 2018 as one of Ferrari's simulator drivers.

"I enjoyed my time working with Ferrari, which helped me keep in good shape and in touch with what is going on in Formula 1 on the technical front", said Kvyat, who tested Toro Rosso's 2018 auto during the post-race Abu Dhabi test. I think we're looking good and I feel that everyone is motivated and focused.

Albon, who finished second in Formula 2 a year ago, added: "In general, the way I've gone about my career and my racing, is I never set any goals on anything". Every year, it was just each race, take it step by step, focus and race in that session - whatever it would be, practice, qualifying, the race.
