Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'to be appointed Manchester United boss'

Paul Pogba netted a brace against Fulham as Mancheser United moved up to fourth spot, and interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was full of praise for the Frenchman.

As mission statements go, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's, issued after beating a Fulham side showing every sign of seasonal capitulation, could not be more pointed.

"You've got to trust the players because the league is vital for us, but it's a chance for them to say, "I should play on Tuesday".

While he felt that speculation of a run for the title was overblown, he said United could still have some influence over who wins the league.

Solskjaer was tasked with steadying the ship following a turbulent few months under Jose Mourinho with the small hope of getting back into the top four.

Manchester United have beaten Arsenal and Tottenham during their impressive unbeaten run under Solskjaer so far.

But Solskjaer continued to pursue the man he wanted to help him succeed and eventually got his man, with Phelan now his assistant. He came to the dressing room.

United's run of form has seen them be unbeaten in 11 games in all, with two wins coming in the FA Cup, only failing to beat Burnley but even that game didn't halt their momentum as they came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in a result that must have felt nearly like a win. "Then two or three days later suddenly it's my challenge and I can tell you I've got goosebumps".

"It's never about one person when the team is winning games of football".

The Champions League last-16 tie is so deliciously hard to call that Blanc, a former United defender and PSG coach, looks nearly physically pained when pushed to pick a victor.

"It's the next (game) so it's the biggest one - the next one is always the biggest one".

The game would end 3-0 to United, a result which seems them leapfrop Chelsea into fourth place in the table, with Solskjaer making it a record-breaking 25 points from his first nine games with United, more than any other boss in their first nine games in charge of a team in the Premier League. "It's something I'm looking forward to".
