The new feature that iOS users can now download from the app store provides the ease of viewing downloaded shows, but conveniently discards already viewed shows while keeping up with downloading one episode after another.

Netflix claims that it wants users to spend less time managing their downloads and spend more time actually consuming content, something the Smart Downloads feature will help them accomplish.

The finished episode is automatically deleted, ensuring there is enough storage space for new content. In addition to that, it downloads the next one as you're on a WiFi network. Netflix originally planned to launch the feature before the end of 2018, and on iOS first, but the reality was Smart Downloads landed on Android first.

Netflix's goal is to take the hassle out of updating shows stored on your mobile device.

Scroll down and select App Settings.

But it's worth noting that the smart download will only work if you're connected to Wi-Fi (saving your mobile data).

Under the Downloads heading, use the toggle to turn Smart Downloads on or off. "The feature is one more way we're making it easier for Netflix fans to take the stories they love wherever they go", Netflix said in a statement.

Netflix initially planned to release the Smart Downloads to iOS users late previous year, but it was delayed for a couple of months before it finally launched. Some subscribers noticed a pop-up that asked them if they wish to "watch this scene again".

"The faster our members can get to the next episode of their favorite stories, the better", a Netflix spokesperson said Thursday.
