"My job is always at risk so I am not anxious about the club - you have to ask the club", Sarri said. "You have to ask the club". It's also very hard to understand because during the week I really was very happy with the team.

"I know exactly what he (Sarri) wants to do", Guardiola said.

"Chelsea depend a lot on our pressing, but we have a lot of quality".

"People don't understand how hard the first year can be. People expect with a new manager and buying players it comes immediately, but it needs time".

Pep Guardiola's side move above Liverpool on goal difference, with the Catalan coach enjoying a crushing victory against a side he has lost to on a record three league occasions.

Guardiola's last line, about the importance of being backed by his bosses, is perhaps why he never accepted Abramovich's offer to manage Chelsea, given the shelf life at Stamford Bridge is notoriously short.

"So at some point you've got to change what you're doing".

"I am surprised because at the beginning of the season we played better away than at home".

Chelsea sit sixth in the Premier League and face a fight with Arsenal and Manchester United to secure Champions League qualification for next season.

"It was really very hard not to give them space and so we were in trouble, but I am not able to understand because as I said before in the week I had a very good feeling", he said.

"We need to understand".

"Something is changing. At the moment I am not able to see the reason but I have to work for this because my target is to play my football, not to change another football because at the moment we are playing another football".

"Manchester City play fantastic football and I saw an extraordinary team.

Now we can have two days off and prepare for Newport and the (Carabao Cup) final".

Winning that trophy alone will not be enough to keep him in a job, however.

At Wembley, the win put Spurs five points off the top of the table as they try to catch pace-setters Liverpool and Manchester City. Instead, the day was about reclaiming top spot from Liverpool, and they did so in comprehensive fashion.

When it came to awarding the penalty that allowed Aguero to complete his hat trick - after spotting Cesar Azpilicueta's foul on Raheem Sterling - Dean pointed exuberantly at the spot while jumping dramatically to end up in a pose with his legs outstretched in a squat. Christian Eriksen netted moments later and although Vardy got one back, Son Heung-min's late strike ensured third-placed Tottenham clinched a fifth win in their last six league games.

There was no repeat of the lengthy dressing-room inquest between Sarri and his players that followed Chelsea's shock 4-0 loss to Bournemouth earlier this month.
