Expect ice pellets and freezing rain Thursday

Toronto and surrounding areas could be in for another icy and wet day on Thursday, Environment Canada says.

Forecasters said freezing drizzle is expected Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. As the day progresses on Thursday, the Kingston region could see freezing mist and drizzle, but freezing rain is meant to pick back up again in the evening for about an hour until it switches to just rain, Hall says.


The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory warning of freezing rain, snow and another round of cold weather from Nebraska through MI. The advisory expires at 1 p.m.

As of late this afternoon, a third round of salting on main roads was underway and the first round of salting on local roads was mostly complete, according to the city's winter operations department.

It's not snow, but it's going to wreak havoc on the roads Wednesday. "It started out with ice pellets, that turned to snow and then we saw some rain and now a little bit of freezing rain", he said.


Periods of freezing drizzle are expected to affect the region tonight into Thursday.

The TTC has replaced the 506 and 512 streetcars with buses this morning due to the weather.
