European round-up: Edinson Cavani doubtful for Manchester United tie

Barcelona and Real Madrid have ended the French champions' dreams at this stage in each of the past two seasons.

"He played 60 minutes, I don't know if it's possible for him to play again at Old Trafford against Manchester United only three days later".

Edinson Cavani is a doubt for Paris Saint-Germain's trip to Manchester United this week after getting injured on Saturday.

Once again in the last 16 PSG must face one of the few clubs in the world that can boast greater revenue than they can thanks to United's commercial power and the riches of the Premier League's TV contracts.

And with each passing day, it feels as if Man United might actually pull it off. Not everyone can play at that level in the Champions League.

"If your key players are not there it's different".

Head coach Thomas Tuchel has admitted both the striker and midfielder Marco Verratti could be forced to miss the United game.

The Italian is now expected to start on Tuesday against a resurgent United side who claimed their 10th win in 11 games under caretaker coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when they beat Fulham 3-0 on Saturday.

"That is what we have to strive for".

When questioned about Cavani's chances of playing at Old Trafford, Tuchel replied: "A little hope, very small, but yes, we still have hope. We don't have a second "Edi", Tuchel told Canal+, but he later insisted that he did have solutions in mind if needed.

The form of Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial has hogged all the headlines, and at home, they could well be favourites against PSG when they come visiting for the Champions League clash on Tuesday.

However, United and PSG are not alone in funding the arms race to Champions League glory.

Mario Balotelli and Lucas Ocampos scored as Marseille won 2-1 at Dijon on Friday. "But the first exams are not good".
