The Welshman played in Arsenal's 3-0 FA Cup win at League One side Blackpool and had his name sung by the away fans.

Of the link to Banega, former Sevilla boss Emery added: "I know this player and he's a very good player".

The Spaniard, though, reiterated Arsenal are not in the market to make permanent transfers during the January transfer window.

Unai Emery has convinced Denis Suarez that his future lies at Arsenal as the Gunners close in on a loan deal for the Barcelona winger, according to reports.

"I don't know now his [Suarez's] situation but we can only sign on a loan", Emery said.

Arsenal spent around £70m on four players last summer - Lucas Torreria, Matteo Guendouzi, Sokratis and Bernd Leno with Stephan Lichtsteiner also arriving on a free transfer - and signed striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for a club record £56m in January 2018.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has said the club are unable to spend money in the transfer window this month and can only rely on making loan moves.

He said: "We can not sign permanently". We can use the players in the match on Saturday after a week of rest.

Arsenal travel to West Ham on Saturday before hosting Chelsea, the Blues occupying fourth place in the table, in a Premier League London derby next weekend. "My last conversation with him is very important", Emery said.

"Now, this week is ideal for everybody, we can use the player in the match on Saturday after one week of rest".

"If we can find one player who can help us like we need, with the quality and a different player for getting in our squad, we are going to do it".

"We pushed him and he was playing three matches during the week, but not ninety minutes each match".
