Megyn Kelly exits NBC after controversial tenure

Two people close to the negotiations said Kelly was paid the rest of her three-year, $69 million contract, equalling about $30 million.

News told Mediaite in a statement, "The parties have resolved their differences, and Megyn Kelly is no longer an employee of NBC".

Kelly's last appearance on Today was on October 24, when she apologized for her remarks that occurred during a panel discussion about Halloween the day before. And "Megyn Kelly Today" was defined by disappointing ratings and awkward moments, with the host sometimes seeming ill-suited for the bubbly world of morning television.

Megyn Kelly and NBC have officially parted ways, three months after she stopped appearing on the network after making a widely criticized comment about blackface. Her talk show was cancelled within days, and her lawyer began negotiating the terms of her exit.

In this September 21, 2017 file photo, Megyn Kelly poses on the set of her new show, "Megyn Kelly Today" at NBC Studios in NY. Her regret over the comment, however, was apparently not enough to sway NBC executives.

Her tenure was also a failure for NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack, who lured her from Fox News Channel with the type of big-money contract that was once standard in television news but now is less so with financial constrictions and less viewership.

Kelly is not believed to be subject to any "noncompete" clause, which means that in theory she can join another network right away, the sources said. "Back when I was a kid that was ok, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character". "She wants to look like Diana Ross for one day, and I don't know how that got racist on Halloween".

It's not immediately clear what's next for Kelly.

Even before the controversial commentary, her future was considered limited at NBC News.

Kelly, one of the moderating journalists, grilled Trump on his disparaging comments about women, noting he had called them "dogs", "fat pigs", "slobs" and "disgusting animals".
