The 22-year-old France global will sign a five-year deal with the Bundesliga champions.

Pavard - a natural centre-back deployed on the right of defence effectively by coach Didier Deschamps - memorably scored arguably the goal of the tournament in a sizzling first knockout stage win over Argentina, leading to many of Europe's elite clubs to start vying for his signature.

French World Cup winning defender Benjamin Pavard will join Bayern Munich from Stuttgart on a five-year contract as of July 1, the defending German champions revealed Wednesday (Jan 9).

Pavard played in six of France's seven games at the World Cup finals, only missing their final group game against Denmark, and he scored his first worldwide goal in the last-16 clash with Argentina.

He has also played 14 times in the Bundesliga this term, but Stuttgart are toiling in 16th place.

"We are delighted, proud and happy that we won over Benjamin Pavard for Bayern Munich", sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic told reporters at the club's winter training camp in Qatar.

Anyway, it would be entirely remiss of us to mention Pavard and not include mention of the achingly handsome goal he scored at the World Cup - later voted the goal of the tournament...

Bayern's next competitive game comes on the 18 January, when they return from winter break with a game at Hoffenheim.
