The long and agonising wait for Game of Thrones fans is over - nearly.

Mark your calendars, Game of Thrones fans, because the premiere date for Season 8 has finally been revealed.

Sunday night saw True Detective's highly-anticipated third season commence, and HBO made the most of its return series by giving us all what we've really been craving. As all three Stark kids stand in front of their own crypt statues, they turn as a frost creeps down the hallway.

The viewer hears messages their from dead family members Ned and Catelyn Stark as well as Lyanna Stark, Ned's sister and the mother Jon never knew.

The eighth season of the show will feature six lengthy episodes, promising never-before-seen grandeur and gore.

Probably one of the highlights of the teaser was when both Jon and Arya draw their swords and went forward to protect Sansa.

That means that right before the premiere launches at 9 p.m. EST, HBO will announce the official Game of Thrones season 8 premiere date.

The as yet unnamed series takes place thousands of years before the events in Game Of Thrones, with HBO saying it "chronicles the world's descent from the Age Of Heroes into its darkest hour". "Winterfell is yours", Sansa said in the scene. A press release confirms they will be "movie length episodes".

Sky's Soho channel will screen Game of Thrones season eight twice, each Monday, when the season starts on April 15. That represented a surge of more than 35% compared to the corresponding episode the previous season.
