The final season of Game of Thrones will screen in New Zealand at the same time it screens in the US.

This eighth season is only six episodes long, which means the finale should be on May 19 if HBO doesn't skip any Sundays.

Season eight of the highly anticipated series will screen here on the pay TV network's SoHo channel on the same day as it screens in America, 1pm on April 15.

The premiere date for the hit HBO show was revealed in a new teaser titled Crypts of Winterfell, which premiered before the premiere of True Detective moments ago.

Recently, co-executive producer Bryan Cogman said that the final season "is about all of these disparate characters coming together to face a common enemy, dealing with their own past, and defining the person they want to be in the face of certain death". But before Sunday, we didn't know when it was going to be back.

The release of the teaser coincides with confirmation of April 14 as the date for the final season of the hugely popular show.

There will be six episodes to come in the Game of Thrones saga, meaning the franchise should end in May 2019.

HBO kicked off the year with calculated Game of Thrones hype, starting with a four-second clip snuck into an ad during the Golden Globes. The series will return for one last ride in April of 2019. In the meantime, you can read INSIDER's key predictions for the final season here.
