Game of Thrones Season 8 release date confirmed, teaser trailer revealed

After much speculation, we finally know that Game of Thrones will be coming back with a bang on April 14.

The final season will commence April 14, so mark it in your calendar.

The announcement came via a creepy new trailer for the fantasy series which was broadcast on HBO ahead of the premiere of the third season of True Detective.

The seventh-season finale set a ratings record in 2017, attracting 16.5 million viewers on HBO and via same-day streaming, according to Nielsen data. We'll have to wait for more Game of Thrones Season 8 details to find out.

As they stop at the end of the tunnel, they are faced with three statues that look almost identical to them. With the haunting music from the always-great Ramin Djawadi, and the slightly ominous tone, the teaser goes heavy on symbolism, bringing with its lots of clues for the final six episodes. That represented a surge of more than 35% compared to the corresponding episode the previous season. This is a direct callback to the first-ever "Game of Thrones" episode, on which Ned Stark welcomed King Robert Baratheon to the castle and told him Winterfell was his.
