Driver who crashed vehicle while blindfolded was doing the "Bird Box challenge"

"Bird Box Challenge while driving.predictable result", the Layton Police Department tweeted on Friday.

The driver then pulled a beanie over her eyes and kept driving. Luckily no injuries, ' the post continued.

"This happened on Monday as a result of the driver covering her eyes while driving on Layton Parkway".

The 17-year-old girl was said to have had a 16-year-old male passenger in the truck with her.

The movie Bird Box has become a social media sensation since its, with viewers sharing hilarious memes about being blindfolded to avoid certain situations.

Fortunately, no one was hurt in the crash just north of Salt Lake City in Utah, US.

Not that anyone needed a real-world example of what can go wrong when you take up the Bird Box challenge, but a Utah teen reportedly has crashed her vehicle after trying to channel her inner Malorie Hayes.

The challenge has seen people being filmed doing a variety of every day things blindfolded, including walking into walls and down streets.

When the movie first came out, Netflix gave a clear warning to viewers to not try the risky challenge.

The challenge "really hasn't been that risky, but inevitably somebody's going to do the monumentally stupid thing that is driving while blindfolded", a Colorado State Patrol officer said in a video message.

Lyman said police have requested the teen driver be charged with misdemeanor reckless driving.
