The good news is the long-running procedural has been picked up for a 15th season, the bad news is it will be the final season for the CBS series, Variety has confirmed.

The show revolves around an elite team of Federal Bureau of Investigation profilers who analyze the country's most twisted criminal minds, anticipating their next moves before they strike again. "It speaks to everything we do best, which is air quality television". ABC Studios produces in association with CBS Television Studios.

The network announced that it has renewed the popular crime drama for its 15th but final season on Thursday. Season 14 is now in production with its season finale set to air on February 6.

The long-running crime drama about a group of Federal Bureau of Investigation behavioral profilers recently celebrated its 300th episode.

She added: 'But they respect this series and the cast and the crew and the fans enough to end this properly'.

"We wanted to make sure Erica had the time and ability to write a season (14) finale that honors the characters and the fans", Reisenbach said.

"That won't be shooting until the spring, so I have some time to think about it, but the hope is to be able to honor all of that history, all of those heroes who have come and gone". Messer said there are no plans for a tragic ending.

Even so, Messer expects the series finale to be a "tearjerker".

Criminal Minds will end as one of U.S. TV's longest-running hits, matching the likes of ER and CSI, with 325 episodes under its belt, according to Deadline.
