As risky cold descends, President Trump's tweet about global warming draws scorn

Keeping up with his penchant for simply creating words, US President Donald Trump has asked global "waming" to make a return for "beautiful Midwest" in the country, which is now experiencing chilly weather conditions due to a polar vortex.

Trump is a vocal global warming denier and today gave his on the cold weather patterns now taking hold of the US Midwest. What the hell is going on with Global Waming?

But some scientists believe global warming may actually be responsible for the 35-degree drop in temperatures as a wave of polar air hits the Chicago area this week.

Last November, Trump tweeted: "Whatever happened to Global Warming?" following a cold blast in the US. He noted the record heat now in Australia.

"Many of the jurisdictions that have selected political leaders opposed to climate policy are the most exposed to the harms of climate change", the authors note. Last month, he rejected a report by his own government warning of the devastating effects of climate change.

Although the Republican president's tweet was liked 51k times, it also left his critics irked and they slammed him for not knowing the difference between climate and weather.

This is not the first time that Trump has spoken out about his thoughts on global warming.

The president's position has shifted slightly on the global climate crisis, from claiming it is a myth made up by China, to telling CBS's "60 Minutes" in an October interview: "Something's changing and it'll change back again".

The fact we are seeing record cold does not contradict climate research.

2018 came in at the fourth-hottest year on record, according to the United Nations' World Meteorological Organization.
