She paid over $93,000 to cover approximately 400 layaways at the Walmart located on Tchoupitoulas Street and became the focus of most of the morning show's story.

In a social media video, Perry said Thursday he meant to do the good deed anonymously, "but nothing stays secret these days".

A Walmart spokeswoman confirmed to CNN the actor and filmmaker paid off $432,635 worth of layaway items at two stores in the Atlanta metro area.

"I was trying to do this anonymously, but due to some circumstances - y'all know nothing stays secret these days", he said in the video.

Perry's gesture applied to layaways that were already in the stores as of 9:30 a.m. local time on December 6.

As Perry explained, he paid off the bills for all items under layaway before 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, and all people have to do is go into the Walmart location and pay a single penny.

Walmart thanked the actor for his kind gesture.

"Merry Christmas to everybody!" "I'm just really grateful to be able to be in a position to do this". "The heartfelt excitement and joy we're seeing from our customers as a result of his holiday gift has been touching".

"I was shocked", she said. Thank you Tyler for this handsome gift! Because both of my daughters have a Layaway, one at Cleveland Ave and the other one at Douglasville, ' Bell-Wilson wrote.
