West Ham's quality in the final third proved too much for Newcastle, as Javier Hernandez and Felipe Anderson starred for Manuel Pellegrini's side.

Newcastle United are set to protest against owner Mike Ashley ahead of a clash against West Ham United.

Newcastle did not win a game until their 11th game of the season.

West Ham made four changes as Cresswell, Noble, Snodgrass and Hernandez replaced Masuaku, Obiang, Diangana and Antonio.

The 25-year-old said: "It was great to be able to score first so we could use my characteristics and my team-mates to launch counter-attacks, and we were happy to be able to dictate the rhythm of the game".

Newcastle looked to have been building some momentum prior to that strike, but rarely threatened thereafter and Felipe Anderson made it 3-0 when he took a pass from fit-again substitute Jack Wilshere, rode a challenge from Fabian Schar and nutmegged Dubravka.

West Ham had won only once at St James' Park in 20 years before their arrival and the ease with which they doubled their tally came as a shock to the Magpies, who were looking for a fourth successive league victory. They're still odds-on to make an immediate return to the Championship but they've climbed out of the bottom three for the first time this season after Friday night's victory against Wolves and their confidence is growing. They've lost five of their six away games to date and they've scored just three times.

"And it did not look like they believed they could get back in the game".

Few teams have been flakier, yet there was quality against Newcastle United, whom they picked off on the counterattack, winning by the same scoreline that they had lost by last season.

Although they haven't reaped the rewards, Cardiff have been fairly stoic on the road. Cardiff restricted both Spurs and Everton well, losing both games 1-0, and they might just prove hard to break down.

"I normally like to play with two strikers".

Pellegrini's side play Cardiff on Tuesday, seeking to back up last Saturday's 3-0 win at Newcastle, which followed a 4-0 home defeat to Manchester City.
