Today, Google began rolling out the December 2018 security patch to Pixel device owners everywhere, and there are lots of Pixel 3-specific improvements onboard worth noting.

If you get the $200 discount, that lowers the price of the base model Pixel 3 to $600, which is an excellent deal.

The most substantial of the thirteen functional patches included in the update is the "improved memory performance in certain circumstances", which should solve the baffling memory management issue that was causing apps running in the background to unexpectedly shut down. The update should reach all Pixel users over the coming days.

Google has made several custom apps which are exclusive to Pixel devices only and its latest app appears to be one related to ringtones called Sounds. One downside, though, is that while Google is now offering a free Pixel Stand and USB-C earbuds when you purchase a Pixel 3, the fine print specifically says that it can't be combined with any promotional codes, so you're out of luck if you wanted to snag both deals. First, Google has adjusted the volume behaviour when connecting to a Bluetooth device, which applies to all Pixel phones.

There's also a very good 12-megapixel rear camera which not only allows you to add DSLR-style depth of field to your images but also now includes a clever Night Sight mode for better photos in low light. "We look forward to continuing our work with our partners on the potential benefits of eSIM-whether that's getting you connected to a phone, watch, tablet, or laptop-in the future".
