Talks between Ajax and Manchester City are believed to have reached an advanced stage after De Jong spent several hours talking to City manager Pep Guardiola. Matthijs de Ligt has been on the radar of top Premier League sides including Liverpool, and the 19 year old could reject the chance to stay in the Netherlands beyond the summer.

Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly beaten Manchester City for the services of a £75 million-rated player, who was also linked with FC Barcelona.

Mbappe has been keen on the club bringing De Jong to France to take up the playmaker role.

Ajax's Frenkie De Jong agrees to join Paris Saint-Germain over Manchester City

'There are so many I look at, especially the midfielders.

"Frenkie is guaranteed to stay with Ajax until the summer and I cannot say anything about it". But I am not sure, ' he told the paper.

De Jong, who moved to Ajax from Willem II in 2015, has scored twice in 22 appearances for his Dutch club this season.

On praise for him from PSG forward Kylian Mbappe, he said: "It makes me happy to hear what Mbappe said about me".

While he may not pay attention to the speculation, De Jong does have an admiration toward a particular style of play.

"I love this style", he said.

"When you watch that, you get the feeling you want to go out on the pitch and play football with your friends and just enjoy yourself".

Manchester City needs someone to replace the ageing Fernandinho.

Even French sensation Kylian Mbappe was raving about the Dutch wonder-kid after going against him on global duty."He is a player who really impressed me during our two matches with the Netherlands", he told France Football. Honestly, he is very welcome in Paris! "After that, he will make his own choice".
