Amazon Launches Quantum Ledger Database and Managed Blockchain

Amazon's digital arm Amazon Web Services (AWS) revealed two new blockchain-inspired products despite the current cryptocurrency bear market. To do this today, customers must build or lease ground antennas to communicate with the satellites.

Of course, heavily-regulated industries such as the financial industry are unable to hand over sensitive data for privacy reasons and more recent overarching regulations like GDPR have made public cloud even less viable for European enterprise.

The new offering positions Amazon well to compete with other analytics service providers - perhaps most notably, UnitedHealthcare's Optum - and to support its still-unnamed partnership with JP Morgan Chase and Berkshire Hathaway. (AWS), an company (NASDAQ: AMZN), announced that National Australia Bank (NAB) has selected AWS as a long term strategic cloud provider, with a goal of migrating more than 300 applications, including some core banking systems, to AWS by the end of 2019. It delivers the entire VMware Software-Defined Data Centre (SDDC) - compute, storage, and networking infrastructure - to run on-premises.

"Satellite data is incredibly useful for building a wide range of important applications, but it is super complex and expensive to build and operate the infrastructure needed to do so", Charlie Bell, AWS/SVP, said in a statement.

The automated landing zone employs best-practices blueprints, such as configuring a multi-account structure using AWS Organisations, managing user identities and federated access with AWS Single Sign-on or Microsoft Active Directory, configuring an account factory through AWS Service Catalogue, centralising a log archive using AWS CloudTrail and AWS Config, and more. These AWS Outposts will be an extension of a customer's Amazon VPC (in the closest AWS Region to each customer), and customers can seamlessly connect from their AWS Outposts to the rest of their applications in AWS or any other AWS service. AWS is kicking off with a pair of ground stations and says it will have a total of a dozen up and running by the middle of next year.

"That is why you see us spending so much time, energy and investment in the ML and AL space", Jassy told the gathering at the company's annual flagship "ReInvent 2018" conference here.

As a result, Amazon anticipates that healthcare organizations of all sizes and types will be able to harness the potential of unstructured data for a number of high-value use cases.

BlackSky's global monitoring and alerting services provide an easy, affordable way to observe, analyze, and act on timely and relevant insights about the planet. These "ground stations" are basically outposts equipped with antennas and are essential to transmitting and receiving data from the thousands of satellites now orbiting our planet.

"AWS listened to our inputs on price point and took into account our needs to influence the timing and approach to their service baseline".

"Amazon Comprehend Medical provides the functionality to help us with quickly extracting and structuring information from medical documents, so that we can build a comprehensive, longitudinal view of patients, and enable both decision support and population analytics", Kejariwal added.
