UFC 230: Daniel Cormier Submits Derrick Lewis To Remain Champion

Cormier will be stripped of his light heavyweight title and the 205-pound crown will go to the victor of the Jones-Alexander Gustafsson bout at UFC 232 on December 29 in Las Vegas. Whether it takes place in the Octagon or the squared circle - or both it looks like only time will tell but things could get very interesting in this situation. I have nothing to prove against Daniel Cormier.

Cormier called out Lesnar for a blockbuster heavyweight bout.

It was arguably one of the most straightforward wins of the 39-year-old's recent UFC career, as he extended his undefeated record as a heavyweight.

Cormier slapped a pair of championship belts over his shoulders and celebrated UFC history, before calling out the UFC legend-turned wrestler, Lesnar.

The fighters joked for a while before Lewis could finally find a reason to dislike Cormier: "He disrespected that Popeye's chicken on a commercial a few years ago".

Cormier landed four takedowns and was rarely troubled as he made the first defence of the 265-pound title he won off Stipe Miocic earlier in the year.

Lewis struggled free to survive the first stanza, although Cormier picked up where he left off in the second round, nullifying Lewis' fabled punching power by securing yet another takedown before choking out the challenger, who in truth had offered little threat throughout. Lewis got up quickly but Cormier had him up against the cage and then dragged him back down to the ground.

From there, Cormier climbed around to Lewis' back and quickly sunk in a rear-naked choke, clamping down on the squeeze and forcing "The Black Beast" to tap out.

The heavyweight champ even managed to plant a big kiss on Rogan for good measure. "History in the making, Daniel Cormier, one of the greatest of all time". Derrick Lewis is one punch away from winning any fight. I really do appreciate him. "It was an honour to share the octagon with him".

On a possible heavyweight fight: "I would fight "DC" at heavyweight, but I feel I have nothing to prove". Lesnar shoved Cormier in the chest while the fighters traded insults to hype a potential future bout. "There are no surprises with me".
