Republican Dan Crenshaw, a Navy SEAL who did five tours of duty, is running for Congress in Texas' 2nd district.

With a photo of Crenshaw over his shoulder, Davidson remarked: "This guy's kind of cool".

This weekend, Davidson was once again faced with enormous backlash after joking about GOP congressional candidate Dan Crenshaw's appearance. According to Thompson, Davidson's follow-up comment about Crenshaw - "I know he lost his eye in war, or whatever", Davidson said on "Weekend Update" - may have been more about audience's reception to the joke.

Crenshaw did provide a suggestion to Davidson and his SNL coworkers for how to help veterans. Crenshaw, a war veteran, wears protective covering over an eye he lost to a war-related injury.

National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Jack Pandol issued a statement demanding an apology from the New York-based network that airs SNL.

"Good rule in life: I try hard not to offend; I try harder not to be offended". "They feel laughed at".

Crenshaw tweeted a response to the skit, hoping the show "recognizes that vets don't deserve to see their wounds as punchlines for bad jokes". "I think Pete's a very humble dude and he's got a big heart". We don't need to be outwardly outraged.

On Fox & Friends Monday, Crenshaw elaborated: "They certainly crossed the line, but their apology won't mean anything to me. But, you know, stand-ups are very like - they're the ones that help us laugh through the most terrible things in the first place, so they're always fishing in weird places, and that was an unfortunate outcome". He lost his right eye and damaged his left, but returned to serve after multiple surgeries.

Neither Davidson nor NBC has issued a formal apology to Crenshaw, although the comedian did poke fun at his own looks in the same segment in which he mocked Crenshaw.

"I$3 t wasn't even amusing".

"I have a thick skin", Crenshaw said, noting that when people, including his friends, make jokes about him, it "has to be original, has to be witty, and it has to actually be amusing".
