Samsung teases mythical smartphone with foldable display

It is reported that Samsung will produce 1 million units of the foldable device in the first year and mass production will be starting this month. This is because as the device is foldable, the same camera can be used to click photos or selfies by just turning the phone around.

After what seems the better part of a half-a-decade of unofficial rumours, Samsung has started to tease its long in development foldable display smartphone.

World Wide Worx MD Arthur Goldstuck says: "Folding phones are clearly still a gimmick but, more significantly, they represent a major advance in technology that will come into its own as use cases evolve".

As we can see in the screenshot of the app below, it clearly says, "Explore the new Galaxy UX with Android 9.0 Pie (Beta Program), and see how a Foldable display creates a totally new experience". The secondary display will measure 4.58-inches, claims the report and Samsung is planning to market the device to feature a 7.3-inch and 4.6-inch displays, respectively.

Samsung is going to be very busy in the coming time. Samsung's annual Developer Conference is scheduled to take place later this week, and Samsung has confirmed it will be previewing the phone at the show.

Expectations that the phone itself will be on display are, however, low.

But if Samsung can create some buzz around the new phones, it would be a welcome salve for its mobile division, which just last week reported quarterly profit tumbling by a third, squeezed by competition with Apple and as Chinese rivals spruce up their mid-range products with features similar to Samsung's.

After launching the Cloud Silver color variant for the Galaxy Note 9, Samsung is all set to launch yet another color variant for its flagship smartphone - Pure White.
