In a statement, Avenatti called the allegations "completely bogus".

"I have never been physically abusive in my life nor was I last night", he said.

'Any accusations to the contrary are fabricated and meant to do harm to my reputation. "I am looking forward to a full investigation, at which point I am confident that I will be fully exonerated". The outlet initially reported that the alleged incident involved Avenatti's estranged wife, before later describing the individual simply as a woman.

The Southern California attorney shot to fame with his impassioned attacks on Trump while representing Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.

"We're told during today's confrontation the woman ran out of the apartment building and was on the sidewalk on her cellphone with sunglasses covering her eyes, screaming on the phone, 'I can't believe you did this to me, '" TMZ wrote. Avenatti was taken into custody on Wednesday, it reported.

The lawyer has become a thorn in Trump's side, recently saying he is seriously evaluating a 2020 presidential bid and that he plans to arrive at a decision by early next year.

TMZ is citing law enforcement sources for their claim that a woman filed a felony domestic violence report against the attorney.

Avenatti said at the time that the lawyer owes him more than $US7 million. This article is not true as it pertains to my client.

'Further, she was not at Mr. Avenatti's apartment on the date that this alleged incident occurred.

R. Christopher Di Mezzo, the communication director for the Vermont Democratic Party, tells the Burlington Free Press that Avenatti's appearances in Vermont this weekend were cancelled.
