A huge matchup with No. 6 Oklahoma late in the season looms large for the Mountaineers. But the Tigers also have two losses. 3 LSU was shut out 29-0 by Alabama.

Boston College, Clemson's opponent Saturday night, moved up to No. 17, setting up a top 20 showdown this week.

"Their defense is extremely strong", said Mullens, the OR athletic director.

No. 12 UCF would likely head to the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl as the highest-ranked champion from a Group of 5 conference, which is guaranteed a spot in a New Year's Six Bowl, instead of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, where it played last season.

The closest team that can complete with Alabama on offense and defense. In terms of just how teams are playing right now, MI might be right behind Alabama and Clemson. Not until they have a second loss of their own, anyway. West Virginia took down Texas 42-41. Wazzu's loss was by three on the road to an unranked 5-4 USC team.

Finally, according to the Sagarin ratings, West Virginia has played the 45th most-difficult schedule in the country.

You know, I'm one of those people who doesn't think the SEC is overrated. But crap like this makes it hard to deny there's an SEC bias with the CFP Selection Committee. We're talking about a team that's 6-3, one that literally needed its athletic director to publicly go on the record Tuesday that they won't be firing their coach this season. A lot can happen in the next four weeks, but the Tigers are playing some of their best football after scoring 77 points against Louisville on Saturday. Here's a look at the team still vying for a playoff spot and our projected top-10 tonight from the committee. Still, LSU has had a very good season and belongs in the top ten. No, of course not. I guess there are a few two-loss teams that could wind back up in the conversation if a bunch of these teams lost down the stretch, but right now, I'd say that your field of four is going to come from these 10 teams.

No. 7-ranked West Virginia's remaining games are at home this weekend against a reeling TCU team and at Oklahoma State the following weekend before hosting Oklahoma on November 23 in a prime-time TV game.
