Steven Yeun appeared on The Walking Dead from season 1 to 7 as Glenn Rhee.

Warning: there are spoilers for the most recent episode of The Walking Dead from here on out.

Are you a fan of The Walking Dead on AMC? Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays the villainous Negan, led the cast with one of the more heartfelt tombstone suggestions, proposing "Here lies Rick Grimes, the pain in the ass that I will love until the day I die". By making the unilateral decision to spare Negan, Rick upheld the values his late son, Carl, championed in order to build for the future, but created conflict within his group.

"We're starting with the first part of the continuing story of Rick Grimes, and there is much more on the way, featuring yet-unseen worlds of The Walking Dead and faces from the show's past, as well as new characters we hope to become favorites, told by TWD veterans and emerging voices", said Gimple.

The first film is expected to begin production as early as 2019.

It's not the only project now in development for The Walking Dead Universe, with Gimple set to roll out a multi-year plan involving films, specials, series, and other vaguely described "digital content".

The British actor starred in his very last episode of the post-apocalyptic horror series on Sunday night, and now he will continue his character's story in a trilogy of feature-length projects written by The Walking Dead's chief content officer Scott Gimple. The first of the films, featuring the next step in Rick's story, should be shooting next year.

Now, we see our survivors a year and a half after the end of the war, rebuilding civilization under Rick's steadfast leadership. And I like the idea that we get to tell a bigger story, maybe with a sort of wider vista.

"But I'll just - it was the goodbye, the goodbye was unbelievable, you know, 'cause it's everybody that's worked with me for - alongside the show, you know, for nine years". 'We know Rick Grimes, he would want to be home'. This may have looked grim for our hero, but now we know that the exit from the show was only to set up the beloved sheriff's introduction into a bigger cinematic universe.
