Beyond the new chip, the Fossil Sport will come preloaded with the updated Wear OS, Google's smartwatch operating system.

Among the bevy of new technology features, the Fossil Sport is based on the recently launched Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform that uses what Qualcomm describes as an ultra-low power system architecture. It's based on the recently launched Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform and the newly redesigned Wear OS by Google, which boasts extended battery life, a new battery saving mode, enhanced ambient mode, integrated heart rate, NFC, and Global Positioning System capabilities. We'll give hands-on impressions when we get one to wear.

The Fossil Sport will also come in two case sizes, 41 mm and 43 mm, which are roughly the same sizes as an Apple Watch Series 4 (though, clearly, a different shape). There's also a new battery saving mode, bringing an additional two days of telling the time in an "ambient mode". The straps and bracelets are interchangeable and available in 18- and 22mm sizes.

Fossil also says the Sport is its lightest smartwatch to date.

Fossil just debuted what it's calling its most colourful smartwatch ever - and it might be its most powerful, too. The fitness-oriented Wear OS device will run the latest version of Wear OS with a revamped fitness and navigation UI.

Interested? You can buy the Fossil Sport right now from for $255, or from Fossil retail stores beginning Monday, November 12.
