Reports have suggested Dembele's place at the club may not be secure, but Valverde praised his potential after the win while admitting expectations for the attacker are high.

Asked about the prospect of him playing, Valverde stated: "We'll see how he will be".

The Argentine superstar made a surprise return to training last Wednesday, despite initially being ruled out for three weeks when he suffered the injury against Sevilla on Oct.20.

"I can't anticipate anything but what is clear is that we aren't going to take any chances with Messi".

Speaking to the press yesterday, right-back Roberto said: "Without Leo we aren't so strong, but we have shown that we are a great team. When we moved him further up at Roma there was a lot of criticism from the media, but then all the criticism disappeared".

Suarez scored a hat-trick in last weekend's 5-1 thumping of bitter rivals Real Madrid and the Uruguayan concedes that Barca may have have underestimated their struggling opponents, who remain 19th.

"We were scarred by his absence and it's normal that it affected a team like ours".

He added: "The other day [vs Rayo] we started the game very well, but then it was hard for us to play as we did in the previous matches".

Luis Suarez fired them in front in the 11th minute, yet goals from Jose Angel Pozo and Alvaro Garcia Rivera swung the game in the home side's favour.

Inter need a win to all but book their passage to the last 16 in a group which also includes Tottenham and PSV Eindhoven.

Barca lead the group with nine points from three games followed by Inter on six while PSV Eindhoven and Tottenham have one point each.
